What is a Hardware-Token?

The hardware token is a small physical device used for two-factor authentication. The device generates a one-time password (OTP) every 60 seconds. Pressing the power button displays the current OTP. The small lines to the left of the OTP indicate how much time is left before a new OTP is generated. The hardware token can be attached to your keychain.

Students:

Students can purchase a hardware token at the copy shop (Printkultur) at Stremayrgasse 16 or at the HTU (Rechbauerstraße 12/Ground Floor). The price is €15.

Staff members:

If you have a smartphone as your work phone, you cannot receive a free hardware token. Instead, you are required to use an app on your work phone to manage your token (2FA activation on smartphone).

Staff members without a work smartphone can obtain a hardware token free of charge by presenting a photo ID (employee ID card or official photo ID) at the ZID Service Point (Stremayrgasse 16/Ground Floor).

Staff members of external organizations can purchase a hardware token at the copy shop (Printkultur) at Stremayrgasse 16 or at the HTU (Rechbauerstraße 12/Ground Floor). The price is €15.

After your employment ends, please return the hardware token to the ZID Service Point at Stremayrgasse 16/Ground Floor.
