2FA with ID Austria

All Austrian citizens and all foreign citizens with a permanent residence in Austria can apply for  ID Austria and use it with the “ID Austria” app as a 2-factor authentication method for TUGRAZonline and the associated services.

Benefits

If you log in with ID Austria, in general you will no longer need to memorise your password for TU Graz. However, if you do, you can reset your password by yourself in TUGRAZonline at any time after logging in with ID Austria.

How to use ID Austria with TUGRAZonline?

The following steps describe the use of ID Austria with the app “ID Austria” as a 2FA alternative at TU Graz.

1. If you want to log in to a system connected to TUGRAZonline (e.g. webmail), you will be redirected to our Single Sign-On login page:

2. There click on the link “ID Austria”:

3. You will be redirected to a login page on id-austria.gv.at. Select "Login with ID Austria".

4. You will now land on a page where you must enter either your ID Austria username (not the TU Graz username!) or your ID Austria registered phone number and ID Austria password:

5. If the entry was correct, you'll see a comparison value. This comparison value is different for each person and each registration. Below is just one example:

6. Next, open the "ID Austria" app on your phone. Tap "Open Signatures".

7. Now you need to compare the comparison value from id-austria.gv.at (step 5) with the comparison value on your phone. If they are identical, click "Sign."

If the login process was successful, you will now be reconnected to the system you tried to log in to.

Tipps for the secure use of ID Austria

  • Do not use language-related special characters (e.g., “ü”) for passwords, but only use ASCII special characters that are likely to be present on the keyboard of a foreign computer!
  • Under no circumstances should passwords be stored on the mobile phone or kept together with the mobile phone!
  • The passwords must not be made accessible or passed on to other people under any circumstances!
  • Every time you log in, check whether the password is actually entered on the id.gv.at server!
  • Please change your ID Austria signature password regularly!
  • If you write down the passwords, keep them safe (bank deposit box, safe, etc.) or store them in a secure password safe.
  • If you have forgotten your ID Austria password, please simply contact a registration office and have your mobile phone reactivated there. The old certificate will then be automatically revoked.
  • Anyone with access to your mobile phone and your signature password can enter into legally binding contracts in your name, meaning that keeping your signature password safe should be at least as important to you as keeping your ATM PIN safe!

No ID Austria possible

Foreign citizens without legal residency in Austria cannot apply for ID Austria. These users are then left with the standard 2FA solution from TU Graz as their only alternative.
